Bread in a can.

I can see how New England brown bread might have been appealing in the days when most houses had no insulation, no central heating and the only way to keep warm in winter was by consuming as many calories as possible. People ate dense, lard-based puddings every day if they could afford to.

I imagine home-made brown bread could be delicious just as home-made Indian pudding is delicious.

But bread from a can? I know my mom occasionally served it to us when we were kids and I remember liking it. I don't think I'd eat canned bread these days. I haven't noticed it in any supermarket in years, not that I've been seeking it. The can in the pic has an expiration date of 1992.
